| Just incase some of you may not know, today, February 29th, 2008 is a leap year. That means that we have 366 days of this year. This only tends to happen every four years. | |

| You've explained the basics, time for the science.
Ok, the Earth's orbit around the sun takes about 365.25 days.
Now, that's fine for most years, as 0.25 days is practically nothing.
But after 4 years, those 4 '0.25's add up, to get an extra day.
That extra day was put onto the shortest month.
That shortest month is February.

| If we didn't add an extra day to February, eventually the months and seasons would get out of wack.
(Ex. Spring arrives in December, Winter arrives in June, etc.) | |
